About

My name is Claudia Chakamian and I am currently the Weekend Sports Anchor and Sports Reporter at WHNT News 19 in Huntsville, Alabama. I received my bachelors degree in broadcast journalism from the University of South Carolina.

You would have never found me on a field growing up; when I was four, I tried playing soccer for a day and failed miserably. I also tried

t-ball for a week and never hit the ball off the tee. I moved inside the dance studio where I fell in love with dance and spent a decade training and competing. As my dance career ended, I found my way back onto the field, but I still wasn't playing the sports.

In high school I found my new passion in covering sports; from wrestling to swimming to baseball, I loved getting the opportunity to tell the stories of what was happening. Getting to share the joys and upsets of sports to fans gave me an energy I had never experienced, and that led me to where I am today.

In college, I quickly became involved in student media, covering Gamecock athletics all four years. I was presented opportunities to do things I never thought I could while in college, including interviewing MLB star Jackie Bradley Jr. and covering NCAA playoff tournaments including the baseball team in 2016, the women's soccer team in 2016 and 2017, and the men's basketball historic run in 2017.

I spent the summer of 2017 as the sideline reporter for the Wareham Gatemen, a baseball team part of the Cape Cod Baseball league. I conducted pre- and post-game interviews as well as developing content for in-game hits and social media. I also wrote game recaps and photographed games. Being a reporter for live broadcasts every day fueled my passion and made me realize how much I love this industry.

In my spare time, I can be found drinking coffee and chasing after dogs. Click the links above to view my work and to contact me.
